Whether you’re looking for a team-building activity for colleagues or a fun way to give back with friends and family, Meals from the Heart is a great way to be part of our mission and serve families. As a Meals from the Heart volunteer, you provide so much more than food. You provide families with a sense of comfort and community.
You can participate in our Meals from the Heart program in two unique ways. Our chef-led experience with Chef James gives you the opportunity to cook a meal in our commercial kitchen with a professional chef, with the added bonus of helping families in need. The best part — Chef James will shop and prepare the menu for you and your group. If you’d prefer to do the planning and shopping on your own, we have an option for you too! You can plan and cook your meal from scratch in our commercial kitchen on select days of the week.
Both are great options and help support RMHCK families by providing them with food for the mind, body, and soul.
Meals from the Heart with Chef James
Chef-led Experience
Our chef-led experience makes it easy for groups of up to 8 people to experience the joy of feeding families without all the stress of coordinating and menu shopping.
To participate, groups are asked to give a gift of $300 to support our meal program. Our chef will lead your group in prepping and cooking a delicious dinner to serve families staying at RMHCK. This is a great opportunity for team building, friends and family, church groups, and more!
Please note that your donation must be made within three business days of receiving your confirmation email to hold your date.Â
Chef James will:
- Conceptualize the menu
- Shop for the ingredients
- Provide a chef-led experience for your group
Your group will:
- Prep and cook a meal with Chef James
- Serve the meal to families staying at RMHCK
- Clean and pack-up leftovers

Meet Chef James
Chef James graduated with a B.A. in culinary management from the International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He’s been cooking for 14 years and was the Executive Chef at Whiskey Dry by Ed Lee and Sous Chef at Milkwood. Most recently, Chef James served as the Culinary Liaison to The LEE Initiative.
“I am excited to serve and help others serve our guest families. I look forward to assisting you with this in any way I can, and if I can show you a chef trick or two, then that’s all just a bonus.”
Meals from the Heart
Plan and cook your meal from scratch.
This opportunity is all about bringing the flavors of your home into our House, putting you in control of creating a comforting meal for families. Your group of up to 8 people creates the menu, buys ingredients, and cooks in our fully-equipped commercial kitchen.
For the health and well-being of our families, ALL food must be prepared in our commercial kitchen or in an outside commercial kitchen. Any store-bought items should be in unopened containers and all produce should be brought in whole.
