Collecting pull-tabs is an excellent way to raise awareness about Ronald McDonald House Charities and they help families whom we help. Every time you pull a tab off, it gives you the opportunity to explain to those around you why you save those little pieces of aluminum.
What do we do with pull-tabs?
After tabs are collected, an RMHCK volunteer takes them to a local recycling center, where they are weighed to determine their value (usually between $.40-$.50 a pound). The recycling center then sends RMHCK a check for the total value. Last year, our pull-tab campaign raised almost $3,000!
Where does the money go?
Funds from the sale of recycled pull tabs help our Ronald McDonald House and our three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms. Because of the generous support of so many in the Kentuckiana area, no one is ever turned away because of their inability to pay. For more information, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.
How Can I Help?
- RMHCK does not have the staff or resources to pick up pull tab collections, so we ask that you drop them off at our House. You can drop off your tabs between the hours of 9 am and 9 pm at the Ronald McDonald House, 550 S. First Street, Louisville, KY 40202.
- Upon request, we can provide collection boxes for your pull tabs or you can create your own collection containers. Up to 20 collection houses can be requested for free, any after that are .25 each.
- If you or your group would like a tour of our Ronald McDonald House when you bring your tabs, please contact us to arrange a date and time.
Please do not mail pull-tabs. The cost of postage outweighs the value of the tabs. If you live outside of Louisville, please take your tabs to your local recycling center and they can make the check out to Ronald McDonald House. You can then mail the check to 550 S. First Street, Louisville, KY 40202.
Thank you for picking up the tab for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana. Pull tab donations are not tax-deductible.
