Expanding Capacity, Helping More Families
Our Ronald McDonald House is built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their heads to rest at night. In 2016 & 2017 we turned away families over 550 times because we were full. We are not okay with that.
That’s why we are expanding. When completed, we will be able to serve over 50% more families each year. We’re calling it our “Keeping More Families Close” Campaign, because that’s exactly what we’re going to do — keep more families of sick children together than ever before.
In 2016, RMHCK acquired the Old Medical School Building at 101 W. Chestnut St., next door to our current Ronald McDonald House. In September 2018, we began redeveloping this beautiful historic space, completing those renovations in July 2019. Also in July 2019, we began renovating our original facility next door at 550 S. 1st St.
With expected completion in early 2020, this project will expand our capacity from 36 to 56 guestrooms, each with their own bathroom and all the comforts of home, to help ease the burden on more visiting families during such a critical time.
We are also creating expanded living and dining rooms, a new commercial kitchen, indoor and outdoor play areas and dedicated quiet rooms.
This expansion project is the largest in our history and we need your help to meet our fundraising goal.
We can’t do it without you.
