Top 5 Reasons I Love my Job

5. I get to sleep in.

Second shift might sound bad to some people, but I really don’t mind it. I do not like breakfast foods, I don’t like waking up before the sun rises, and I would always prefer to stay up late rather than wake up early.

4. No two days are alike.

Check-ins, check-outs, volunteers, and families are never the same. Not knowing what to expect each day keeps me on my toes and always prepared.

3. I work with great people.

Co-workers and volunteers both, everyone is here because they want to make a difference. My co-workers are also pretty fun. Who else’s boss takes you indoor go carting?

2. I’ve met some pretty amazing kids and families.

I thought I had a good idea of what “being strong” and “persevering” meant until I stepped foot into this house for the first time. These families are all experts at overcoming any number of obstacles. To go through both radiation and chemo treatments in one day and still have a smile on your face at the end of it – that’s pretty impressive!

1. I’m making a difference.

I know that when I walk into RMH every afternoon, what I do for the next 8 hours will make a difference for someone, whether it be checking in a new family so they can stay close to their child or just listening to a family member talk about their situation. The things I do, big or small, matter to someone.
