07 May The Breakout Games
Imagine being locked in a room with your co-workers for one hour…now imagine you actually liked it…for a lot of you I bet that would not be your experience.
We traveled to Lexington, KY to take a tour of their Ronald McDonald House and have an off-site meeting. As an organization that runs 24/7/365, it can be very hard to have some uninterrupted time for our full-time staff to meet. With the help of our awesome relief managers covering the House, we were able to visit our closest RMH neighbors, and get to work on our new Core Values (to be unveiled in the near future) and after that, we took part in The Breakout Games.
It was quite an incredible thing to see 8 people with very different skills work together to solve puzzle after puzzle required to breakout of the room. We managed to find the missing Trophy, the $2 Million Purse and the Blanket of Roses after a great Derby Heist. It took us almost 57 minutes to find the final code that let us out of the room, and I can say it is doubtful that we could have made it without everyone working together and applying their personal skills. Also, I don’t know what kind of genius you have to be to create something like The Breakout Games but it is very impressive!
We were all smiles when we got out in time and on the drive back to Louisville it was comforting to think of the things I was not able to solve on my own and know that I have a team of really awesome people that can make up for weaknesses. There is an African Proverb that says “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Well together we went far and we also went pretty dang fast.
