18 Jun RMHCK Golf Scramble Survives The Storm
On June 8, we held our 5th Annual RMHCK Golf Scramble at Hunting Creek Country Club. But, the tournament almost didn’t happen. Early that morning, I received a phone call from the golf pro at Hunting Creek. The first words out of his mouth were, “This stinks.” He was talking about the weather.
Forecasts called for a 90% (or higher) chance of heavy rain and storms. We needed to make a quick decision whether to hold the event or postpone it. Because numerous out-of-town golfers had already traveled to Louisville for our event, and others’ busy schedules would make it difficult to reschedule, we decided to hold the event and hope for the best.
We watched the weather radar as we prepared for golfers to arrive. A couple of heavy showers came and left that morning. More storms were coming later in the afternoon, but we thought we could play a few holes before they came. Our golfers arrived, ate lunch generously provided by Texas Roadhouse, then started play at noon. It looked like storms were coming around 2pm, but it was just very light rain, and it lasted less than 10 minutes. 3pm came and went with no additional rain. 4pm arrived and the course – and our players – remained dry. Shortly after 5pm, when our players finished play, the sun even came out.
Amazingly, there were no storms, and our teams played the full 18 holes. In fact, the weather was perfect – a bit overcast but a very pleasant day.
My thanks go to Republic Bank, our Presenting Sponsor for this event, and our other sponsors:

Also, a huge “shout-out” to Mother Nature, who gave us perfect weather for a terrific day of golf. Most importantly, we appreciate the support of everyone who participated, helping us raise much-needed funds to provide a loving, caring “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children.
