Stock Yards Bank adopted dinner at Ronald McDonald House
I recently worked at Ronald McDonald House helping cook dinner for the residents. This is one of the most rewarding things I have ever been involved with. Not only do I feel great that I have been able to give the families a good home cooked meal at a time when they are eating fast food and sleeping in Hospital rooms, but it’s wonderful to get a chance to meet and talk with the family members.
I first started working with RMD in about 2006 when I was teaching at Jefferson Community College, I took a group of students there as part of our class service requirements. Since then I have introduced the opportunity to my Church and we have visited and served two times. My sisters and I have gone two times with family groups and now I have introduced the opportunity to my co-workers at Stock Yards Bank & Trust and we have served three times.
On a personal note, my parents who have recently passed were so proud of us for serving that now we do it in their name.
Our latest V\visit was on Veterans Day. I am working at a new branch this year and this was their first trip to Ronald McDonald House. We held two bake sales, collected pull tabs and even had a $100.00 donation from one of our customers. When I asked my co-workers how they would describe the evening, the replies included words like “Feeling Thankful” “Inspirational” “Amazing” “Humbling”.
The last statement I got from one of my co-workers was: “Everybody needs to do this and when can we go again.”
