Give A Day – Mayor’s Week of Service, Price Elementary Visits RMHCK

April 23, 2015

Treat BagThe Brightest Stars…

This morning RMHCK staff were the recipient of the most adorable act of kindness from a local elementary school. As part of Mayor Fischer’s “Give A Day” initiative, Price Elementary School chose a theme of “serve those who serve us” and spent the week visiting non-profits, nursing homes, fire houses, etc. to show appreciation for the services these organizations provide to the community. Students in kindergarten through second grade arrived wearing matching t-shirts and bright smiles. They instantly brightened our House with their infectious cheer.

Four of the students presented a dramatic reading of The Giving Tree for the staff and then they all shared one of their play songs with us. As an added treat, the teachers invited many of our staff members to stand up and participate in the song and motions right along with the students.

Brightest StarsBefore leaving, they presented us with a copy of The Giving Tree for our book collection, and also gave each staff member a special treat bag. The brown paper bag represented the tree from the story and they used green paint to put handprints on the bags representing the leaves. Inside there was a sweet note with a star pin attached that read, “The brightest stars are those who shine for the benefit of others”…I love that!

I’m pretty sure I smiled the entire time the students were here visiting. I can’t express how much it meant to me to have these teachers and students express their thanks for what we do here at the House. It was truly a blessing and encouragement.
