Did Someone Say Cake?

TwitterCoverPhoto1500x500-1024x341As soon as I started thinking about how we might celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the House this September I knew I wanted cake, lots of different cakes, because let’s be honest, any good birthday or anniversary party has cake! We went round and round about tons of different ways we could celebrate and we decided to throw ourselves a birthday party and call it “Cheers to 30 Years”. There will be music by the awesome Dave Drummond with Odyssey Mobile Entertainment, and thanks to OLD 502 and BBC there will be complimentary wine and beer all night. It is shaping up to a fabulous event, but my favorite part is the cake tasting. I was terrified to go through with it because I worried we wouldn’t be able to get bakers and bakeries to participate, but it was just one of those ideas I feel in love with. The plan is for several different bakers or bakeries to enter the contest at no charge. They will bring their tastiest cake and serve sample size pieces to the guests at Cheers to 30 Years. Guests can purchase raffle tickets for $1 each and use them to vote for their favorite cake (all funds going to the House). At the end of the night we’ll award a prize for the tastiest cake and we’ll also draw for prizes from the votes for the guests.  It sounds amazing, right?

There’s only one problem…my worst fear is coming true. We’re having trouble getting bakers and bakeries to enter the contest! That’s where you come in. If you’re reading this and you aren’t from Louisville, that’s OK. Do you have a bakery in your hometown? If so, we’d love to have them. Wouldn’t it be cool to have bakeries from the hometowns of different families who have called Ronald McDonald House their “home away from home”. If you are from Louisville, please consider helping us spread the word. If you frequent a bakery for your family birthday cakes or your morning pastry, take a moment to stop in and ask them if they would be willing to support the House by entering the cake contest. The contest is also open to individuals who have their own business or do cakes on the side as well as any restaurants or catering companies that might be interested. Click here for the official entry form with all of the contest details. If you have additional questions, please feel free to email me at Christina@rmhc-kentuckiana.org. If reading this has made you just as excited about this event as I am, click here to purchase tickets now.

One last thing, I would like to extend a huge thank you to the two bakeries that have already shown their support and entered the contest. Thank you to Adrienne and Co. in Jeffersonville, IN and Q&A Sweet Treats in LaGrange, KY. If you have the chance to visit either of these delicious bakeries, I would highly recommend it. While you’re there, please be sure and tell them thanks for supporting Ronald McDonald House.
